As social tweet-ups and meet-ups inspired by Mashable’s Social Media Day happen across the world, the real party is at the Foursquare offices in New York after the social networking service announced it had raised $20 million from venture capitalists.

Foursquare, a social networking service that allows users to broadcast their location to friends from a mobile phone, has more than 1.8 million users and is adding new ones at the rate of roughly 10,000 a day, according to The New York Times.

Foursquare’s founding entrepreneurs, Dennis Crowley and Naveen Selvadurai, said the venture capital cash would be used to enhance its technology infrastructure and expand the site’s staff.
